KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – Mikolas Schwickert (Clavadistas del Sol) won a second junior national title with a victory in 11-and-under boys’ 3-meter, and Isabel Baley (City of Midland Aquatics) won the 11-and-under girls’ 1-meter title as the 2019 USA Diving Junior National Championships continued Thursday.
Schwickert, who won gold on platform on Wednesday, scored 219.85 points to claim the 3-meter gold. Max Van Stone (Clayton Diving Alliance) scored 211.95 points for silver, with Mitchell Caldwell (American Flyers Diving) just 0.05 points behind for bronze.
Schwickert was in second place with one dive to go before finishing with 46.20 points on a front 2 ½ tuck to move into first place and walk away with his second gold medal.
Baley won the 1-meter gold with 247.70 points, with Olivia Astrologes (RipFest) scoring 232.30 points for silver. Kayla Jensen (The Woodlands Diving Academy) was third with 230.10 points.
Baley scored 44.00 points or higher on all three of her dives, including an inward 1 ½ tuck that scored 49.50 points. She received at least one eight from the judges on all three dives.
The USA Diving Junior National Championships continue through August 6. Junior national championships will be crowned in 12-13 boys’ platform and 12-13 girls’ 3-meter events on Friday.
