DALLAS - The finals are set for the women’s 3-meter and men’s platform, with divers advancing to Sunday’s finals after Wednesday’s preliminary and semifinal competition at the USA Diving Senior National Championships. Krysta Palmer (Carson City, Nev./Reno, Nev.) led the women’s 3-meter semifinals with 320.55 points, while David Dinsmore (New Albany, Ohio/Miami, Fla.) led the men’s platform semifinals with 423.90 points.
Palmer placed fourth with 271.95 points in the preliminaries and improved her score in the semifinals. She had her most successful dive in the fourth round after performing a reverse 2 ½ pike for a score of 70.50. Maria Coburn (Round Rock, Texas/Austin, Texas) placed second, with 304.65 points, while Brooke Schultz (Fayetteville, Ark.), who led the preliminaries with 282.65 points, landed third in the semifinals with 289.80 points.
Brandon Loschiavo (Huntington Beach, Calif./West Lafayette, Ind.) led the men’s platform in the preliminaries with 419.15 points before placing a close second in the semifinals with 421.10 points, 2.8 points behind Dinsmore. Dinsmore’s best dive was in the fifth round with a reverse 3 ½ tuck. Zach Cooper (Greenwood, Ind./Miami, Fla.) placed third with 331.70 points.
The 2018 USA Diving Senior National Championships is part of the 2018 Team USA Summer Champions Series, presented by Xfinity. The champions series showcases numerous Olympic sports throughout the season, highlighting the year-round quest of Team USA athletes to compete at the Olympic Games.
Thursday’s competition features men’s synchronized 3-meter and women’s synchronized platform preliminaries and finals.
