By USA Diving | July 02, 2018, 5:19 p.m. (ET)

The 2018 USA Diving Junior National Championships will be held July 29-August 4 in Atlanta, Georgia. With Zone Championships and qualifying across the country now complete, here are some answers to questions you may have about the qualifying process, how divers advance, registration, tickets and other important items.

Who qualifies from Zones, and are there replacement divers?

Prequalified Divers

  1. All HPS3 divers are prequalified to the semi-finals of Junior Nationals.  They are listed on the prequalification list. If a HPS 3 diver places in the top 10 on springboard or the top 7 on platform, all divers behind the prequalified diver move up and an additional person will be brought forth.
  2. All YMCA National Champions are prequalified to the prelims of Junior Nationals.  They are listed on the prequalification list.  If a YMCA National Champion places 4-7 on platform or 4-10 on springboard, all divers behind that diver move up and an additional person will be brought forth.
  3. If a YMCA National Champion places 1-3 in any event, they have superseded their prequalification and are treated like any non-prequalified diver.  No additional divers are brought forth.

Junior springboard events

From each Zone three (3) divers in each springboard event in all age groups shall qualify for the semifinals of the National Championships in those events and the divers placed fourth through 10th will qualify for the preliminaries of the National Championships in those events.

Junior platform events

From each Zone Championships, the top three (3) divers in the platform event in all age groups shall qualify for the semifinals of the National Championships in those events and the divers placed fourth through seventh will qualify for the preliminaries of the National Championships in that event.

Replacement divers in junior events

Should any of the qualifiers in places one (1) through three (3) from the Zone Championships in age groups A, B, C or D be unable participate in the Junior National Championships, there shall be no advancement by the next placing diver.

Should any of the qualifiers in places four (4) through 10 on a springboard event or places four through seven on a platform event from any of the Zone Championships be unable to participate in the National Championships, the Meet Director of the Zone Championships so affected shall contact the next finalist in order of finish in that event to complete the qualifiers for that event.

No diver who finishes below 16th place shall be considered.

Who advances at Nationals?

The top six divers from the preliminaries will advance to the semifinals, where they will be joined by the top three finishers from each zone meet as well as any prequalified divers.

The top 12 divers from the semifinals will then advance to the finals.

The letters correspond to age groups for junior competition. Group A = 16-18; Group B = 14-15; Group C = 12-13; Group D = 11-and-under
