ATLANTA- The 2018 USA Diving Junior National Championships concluded Saturday with Chloe Bishop (Coral Springs Dive Club) winning the group B girls platform and Quinn Henninger (Mile High Diving Club) earning the gold medal in the group B boys 3-meter. Lyle Yost (American Flyers Diving) captured the group A boys platform title and Anne Fowler (Alexandria Diving Club) placed first in the group A girls 3-meter event.

Bishop scored 311.85 overall points to clinch the girls 14-15 platform title, as the Florida native saved her strongest dive for last, as her front 2 ½ somersaults with 1 twist scored 59.45 points. Hailey Hernandez (GC Diving) finished second by just 6.55 points back, while Remi Edvalson (Stanford Diving) scored 295.15 points for the bronze medal.

Henninger won his second gold medal of the week, finishing first in the 16-18 boys 3-meter on Saturday after clinching the group B boys platform title Thursday. He totaled 462.25 points and finished with a front 2 ½ somersaults with 1 twist scoring 67.50 points, his strongest dive in the final. Manuel Borowski (Dominion Diving Club) finished second with 446.55 points, while Carson Tyler (Moss Farms Diving) placed third with 434.65 points.

In the boys group A platform event, Yost had to climb his way to the gold medal after beginning the finals in third place overall. In the fourth round of the finals, he moved up to second after his best dive, a reverse 2 ½ tuck scored 71.40 points. The following round Yost moved to first after an inward 3 ½ tuck scored 70.40 points. Yost finished competition with 550.15 points, while Emanuel Vazquez (YCF Diving Team) earned the silver medal with 507.90 points. Jordan Rzepka (Ohio State Diving Club) placed third with only 1.05 points behind Vazquez.

The group A girls 3-meter final came down to the last round of competition as Fowler, who had held second place through the first four rounds of the final, nailed a front 2 ½ somersaults with 1 twist for 70.50 points. The dive was Fowler’s strongest of competition and allowed her to pass Bridget O’Neil (GC Diving) to take her first national title group A competition. O’Neil finished second, just 7 points behind Fowler. Daria Lenz (SoCal Divers) earned the bronze medal with 488.65 points.

“It feels amazing,” Fowler said after the final. “This was my first year competing in the 16-18 age group. I did not expect it. I’ve been struggling with a couple of my dives and I have not been able to get them off in warm ups. This is a complete surprise, but I’m really happy with how I dove.”

Competition at the McAuley Aquatic Center at Georgia Tech wrapped up with 24 national titles crowned.
