Daryn Wright takes second on platform at Dresden Youth Diving Meet

DRESDEN, Germany – Daryn Wright (Plainfield, Ind.) finished second on platform and Quinn Henninger (Denver, Colo.) advanced to the 3-meter finals Friday, the second day of competition at the International Youth Diving Meet.

Wright scored 332.65 points in the group B platform event to finish second behind Russia’s Ekaterina Beliaeva, who won with 376.55 points. Beliaeva also won 1-meter on Thursday. Wright had a solid final, scoring 66 points on her front 3 ½ pike and 67.20 points on her back 2 ½ with 1 ½ twists. She qualified for the finals with seventh place in the preliminaries.

Henninger placed sixth in the boys’ group B 3-meter final after qualifying in fifth place after the morning preliminaries. He scored 415.55 points, just a tenth out of fifth place and less than eight points from a spot on the podium. He scored 53.20 points or higher on all four optionals in the finals, including 61.60 points on both his front 3 ½ tuck and reverse 3 ½ tuck.

Clayton Chaplin (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also competed in the 3-meter event and placed 14th with 327.00 points.

The Youth Diving Meet continues through Sunday, April 29. Saturday’s competition includes Henninger and Chaplin in the individual platform and synchronized 3-meter events. Wright will compete on 3-meter, and Johanna Holloway (Boynton Beach, Fla.) will dive in the girls’ group A 1-meter contest.
