Watson takes seventh on 3-meter at British Elite Junior Diving Championships 2018

Ali Watson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale Diving Team) paced Team USA for the second day in a row at the British Elite Junior Diving Championships 2018, crafting a seventh-place finish in the 16-18 girls’ 3-meter contest Wednesday afternoon at the Plymouth Life Centre in Plymouth, Great Britain. Fellow American Allison Ward (Westlake, Texas/GC Diving) came in 21st in the 16-18 girls’ 3-meter and Bennett Greene (Knoxville, Tenn./Tennessee Diving) took 23rd in the 12-13 boys’ platform.

Watson secured seventh overall thanks to a score of 363.05 in the 16-18 girls’ 3-meter final, producing two dives of 50.40 points or more. Her highest-scoring dive of the final was a back 1½ somersault 2½ twist free worth 54.60 points. She entered the final sixth overall after a mark of 372.75 in the preliminary. Watson won silver in the 16-18 girls’ platform contest yesterday.

Ward totaled 314.20 points in the 16-18 girls’ 3-meter preliminary for a 21st-place finish. Her highest-scoring dive came in the final round with 49.20 points on a forward 2½ somersault pike.

Greene competed for the second straight day, amassing 224.10 points in the 12-13 boys’ platform preliminary for 23rd overall. He finished 14th in the 12-13 boys’ 1-meter contest yesterday.   

Action comes to a close tomorrow with Americans competing in the 16-18 girls’ 1-meter (Watson, Ward, Jessica Warak) and the 12-13 boys’ 3-meter (Greene). Diving starts at 10:00 a.m. GMT (Daylight Time)/5:00 a.m. EST.
