Amy (Cozad) Magaña (Indianapolis) and Katrina Young (Shoreline, Wash.) placed seventh in women's synchronized 10-meter with 283.86 points at the FINA Diving World Series on Friday morning in Beijing.

China’s Ren Qian and Chang Yani scored 340.26 points for gold, with silver going to the Malaysian pair of Pandela Rinong and Jun Hoong Cheong at 316.08. North Korea’s Kim Kuk Hyang and Kim Mi Rae finished with 313.92 points to take the bronze.

In eighth place with one round to go, Magaña and Young scored 73.92 points on their back 2 ½ with 1 ½ twists in the final round to move up to seventh place. Their inward 3 ½ tuck earned 66.24 points in round three.

The 2016 Olympians were competing together in synchronized diving for the first time since 2014, when they placed eighth at the FINA World Cup.Young competed individually on 10-meter in Rio de Janeiro, while Magaña competed with Jessica Parratto in synchronized 10-meter at her first Olympic Games last summer..

Magaña and Young plan to compete together at the upcoming USA Diving Synchronized National Championships, which will be held April 12-15 in Atlanta. The nationals will serve as the selection trial for this summer’s FINA World Championships in all synchronized diving events.

The FINA Diving World Series continues next week with competition March 9-11 in Guangzhou, China. Tarrin Gilliland (Liberty Hill, Texas/Midland, Texas) and Delaney Schnell (Tucson, Ariz.) will compete synchronized 10-meter for Team USA at that competition.
