Both U.S. girls group B (14-15) platform divers advanced to the finals on Wednesday at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships in Kazan, Russia.
Tarrin Gilliland (Liberty Hill, Texas) finished fourth with 354.50 points in the final, while Maysi Richards (Weatherford, Texas) was 12th at 292.05. China’s Xia Bingqing took the platform gold at 381.95, followed by Ukraine’s Sofiia Lyskun at 370.20 and Japan’s Arai Matsuri with 367.60 points.
Also on Wednesday, Grayson Campbell (Vienna, Va./Austin, Texas) and Cameron Thatcher (Powell, Ohio/Stanford, Calif.) finished ninth with 278.46 points in the synchronized 3-meter final. Lou Massenberg and Patrick Kreisel of Germany won the gold with 316.98 points.
In group A (16-18) girls 1-meter competition, Carolina Sculti (Rye, N.Y.) scored 354.65 points for 16th and Mya Kraeger (Willis, Texas) was 28th with 297.50 points. Great Britain’s Katherine Torrance won the gold with 413.90 points.
The FINA World Junior Championships continue through Sunday, December 4. Thursday’s action features Max Flory (Fairfax, Va.) and Jack Matthews (Powell, Ohio) in group B boys 1-meter competition and Kristen Hayden (Hillsborough, N.J./Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Johanna Holloway (Boynton Beach, Fla./Moultrie, Ga.) in the group A girls 3-meter event.
