DIVING: Michelle Cabassol Wins Two Silvers at FINA Junior Diving World Championships

Aachen, Germany - Michelle Cabassol (Montgomery, Texas) won a pair of silver medals at the FINA Junior Diving World Championships from September 16-21.

Cabassol, 15, won her first silver on platform with 388.90 points, highlighted by a front 3 ½ pike that scored as high as 9.0. She added a second silver when she paired with Kaylea Arnett (Spring, Texas) in the girls synchronized 3-meter competition with 290.76 points.

Cabassol was also just 1.6 points from a bronze medal on 3-meter, scoring 371.05 points for fifth in girls Group B (divers born 1993-1994).

Three other U.S. divers turned in top-six finishes. Shelby Cullinan (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) and Victoria Lamp (Knoxville, Tenn.) were fourth and fifth, respectively, on platform in girls Group A (1990-1992), and Kristian Ipsen (Clayton, Calif.) was fifth on 1-meter and sixth on 3-meter in boys Group A.

China won 13 of the 14 gold medals available, winning every event except boys 3-meter in Group A. Silver medalists included 2008 Olympians Thomas Daley of Great Britain and Jennifer Abel of Canada.

The FINA Junior Diving World Championships are held every two years; the 2010 championships will be held in Tucson, Ariz.
