Troy Dumais Blog - National Event before departing for Beijing

July 28, 2008, 10:57 a.m. (ET)

It has been two weeks since I was named to the USA Olympic Team and it is four days till I leave for Beijing. I have struggled day in and day out to push myself to my limits mentally and physically preparing myself for the ultimate goal of gold in Beijing. But before I depart my first test is to defend my Olympic berth at my home pool growing up at the Kaiser Permanente Nationals in Pasadena, California. Here the USA Diving Olympians are being tested on the national level.

I have had three days of training on the new springboards and in the sun. I totally forgot how much the blazing sun can drain my energy. But like any sport you need to deal with adverse and environmental conditions, knowing that the other competitors are in the same situation. Therefore, instead of dwelling on it, I will use it to fuel the fire to challenge and push myself even more. I compete in the 3 meter springboard finals on Sunday July 27 where I will be competing against the best 12 divers in the nation.
