Foster and Loukas advance to finals in 3-meter

BEIJING - USA's Nancilea Foster (Conroe, Texas) and Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill.) placed fourth and seventh, respectively, in the women's 3-meter springboard semifinals Saturday to advance to Sunday night's finals.

The finals are set for 8:30 p.m. at the National Aquatics Center and will feature the top 12 divers from the semifinals.

Foster, who was 11th in the preliminaries, put together a solid list for 338.90 points, including 72 points on both her front 2 ½ with 1 ½ twists and her reverse 2 ½ pike.

Loukas also scored more than 60 points on all five dives to finish with 329.10 points, including 72 on her reverse 2 ½.

China's Guo Jingjing, the 2004 gold medalist on 3-meter, scored 398.55 points to lead the semifinal field, with 2004 bronze medalist Julia Pakhalina of Russia in second with 383.50 points. Athens silver medalist Wu Minxia of China finished the semis in third place with 345.30 points.

Scores from the semifinals do not carry over; divers will start at zero and dive in reverse order of their finish in the semis.
