The Mile High Dive Club wants you!!!

Do you love teaching kids?  Do you want to train athletes in the best dry-land training center in the country? If so, you may be who we are looking for at the Mile High Dive Club.  MDHC is looking to for a summer intern who is interested in coaching diving approximately 20 hours a week and along with some administrative duties. 

Required qualifications:

1.     Passion for training divers to help them realize their potential as individuals and as athletes.

2.     A desire to impart a healthy lifestyle to young athletes. 

3.     Have experience or are willing to learn hand and belt spotting on multiple apparatus.

Recommended qualifications:

1.     Have a background in dryland training for diving, gymnastics, trampoline or other gym based aerial sport.

2.     Have a background in physical fitness, personal training, dance or physical education.

Program Director/Head Coach - Grand Rapids, Michigan (Posted 4/21/17)

Dive club located in Grand Rapids, Michigan area seeks program director/head coach for established club.  The club currently has 35 members and is growing. This past year the club had 7 national team members, 12 state high school qualifiers, 7 of which hold all state honors, two are two time state champions..

Position responsibilities:

  • Coaching staff to establish workouts and training plans for all diving levels.
  • Mentoring assistant coaches, establishing dry land workouts, belt spotting, and hand spotting, performance evaluation, and establishing individual goals for each diver.
  • Meet management
  • Program promotion
  • Records management
  • Scheduling
  • Parent communication

Preferred qualifications:

  • B.A.
  • Experience in JO lesson and team programs
  • Experience judging local and regional meets
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Passion for the sport of diving
  • Personal diving and/or gymnastics training
  • Must have knowledge and skill in trampoline, dry land training, and belt spotting on all diving apparatus.
  • Highly motivated and responsible

Northern Michigan University - Part-time Diving Coach (Posted 3/29/17)

Northern Michigan University is seeking applicants for a part-time diving coach to assist in developing, promoting and supervising all facets of the University's Diving program. Our facility has a separate diving pool, 2 1-M boards, 1 3-M board, a 5-M platform, trampoline on deck with a spotting belt, a 1-M dry board on deck and a wet belt over a 1-M board. We also have a dedicated strength coach who works with our divers outside of the pool with diving specific training.

Job Duties and Summary:

Operate all facets of a competitive diving program including the development of daily, weekly and seasonal training plans.  Develop a complementary dryland program that is diving specific and work with our team strength coach to ensure the weights program is diving specific and coordinated with the diving seasonal training. Be able to work with both experienced, All-American level athletes as well as athletes who are new to 3-meter diving.  

Duties also include assisting the head coach in the following areas:

  • Ensuring all relevant institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations are followed including but not limited to; eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, scheduling and academic progress.
  • Promoting a positive environment to encourage student athletes to strive for academic and athletic excellence.
  • Assist in preparing and planning home meet operations and travel meet plans.
  • Provide moral support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student athletes.
  • Establishing and maintaining a positive relationship with the community, media and the athletic department’s administrative staff.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years’ experience coaching diving at the club, high school or collegiate level, including 3-meter coaching experience.
  • Experience teaching new dives and techniques related to competitive diving.
  • Experience in analyzing diving performances and identifying areas needed for improvement.
  • Knowledge of current training methods of all aspects of competitive diving.
  • Knowledge of and ability to safely use a trampoline and spotting rig for training and instructive purposes.
  • CPR/AED and HEADS UP Concussion certifications must be held or attained upon hire

Other Duties

  • Options exist for establishing community diving programs, clinics and camps as an additional duty through Northern Michigan University’s recreational sports office.
