Competition requirements vary depending on the age, gender and event. Following is a summary of those competition requirements.

Women

1-meter Springboard
In the preliminary and final, each diver must perform five dives from different groups (For information on the different groups of dives, see Types of Dives.).

3-meter Springboard 
In the preliminary, semifinal, and final, each diver must perform five dives from different groups.

Platform 
In the preliminary, semifinal, and final, each diver must perform five dives from different groups.

Synchro 3-meter/Platform
Synchronized diving for women includes five different rounds of dives from five groups:

  • Two rounds of dives with an assigned degree of difficulty of 2.0 for each dive (regardless of formula value)
  • Three rounds of dives with a minimum total degree of difficulty of 8.0 for 3-meter springboard and 8.3 for platform

Men

1-meter Springboard
In the preliminary and final, each diver must perform six dives. Divers must choose one dive from each of the five groups, while the sixth dive may be selected from any group.

3-meter Springboard
In the preliminary, semifinal, and final, each diver must perform six dives. Divers must choose one dive from each of the five groups, while the sixth dive may be selected from any group.

Platform 
In the preliminary, semifinal, and final, each diver must perform six dives from different groups.

Synchro 3-meter/Platform
Synchronized diving for men includes six different rounds of dives from at least five groups:

  • Two rounds of dives with an assigned degree of difficulty of 2.0 for each dive (regardless of formula value)
  • Four rounds of dives with a minimum total degree of difficulty of 11.8 for 3-meter springboard and 9.0 for platform

Within the six rounds, a group cannot be used more than twice.

Junior Girls

Springboard 
Girls ages 11 and under must perform three voluntary dives from different groups with a total degree of difficulty of not more than 5.0 on 1-meter springboard and 5.4 on 3-meter springboard, followed by three optional dives from different groups.

Girls ages 12-13 must perform four voluntary dives from different groups with a total degree of difficulty of not more than 7.2 on 1-meter springboard and 7.6 on 3-meter springboard, followed by three optional dives from different groups.

Girls ages 14-15 must perform five voluntary dives—one from each group—with a total degree of difficulty not to exceed 9.0 on 1-meter and 9.5 on 3-meter, followed by three optional dives from different groups.

Girls ages 16-18 must perform five voluntary dives—one from each group—with a total degree of difficulty not to exceed 9.0 on 1-meter and 9.5 on 3-meter, followed by four optional dives from four groups without limit.

Platform
Girls ages 11 and under must perform three voluntary dives with a degree of difficulty not to exceed 5.4, as well as two optional dives from different groups. Dives may be done on 5-meter only.

Girls ages 12-13 must perform four voluntary dives with a degree of difficulty not to exceed 7.6, as well as three optional dives from different groups. Dives may be done on 5- and 7.5-meter only.

Girls ages 14-15 must perform four voluntary dives from different groups with a total degree of difficulty not to exceed 7.6, followed by three optional dives from different groups. Girls ages 14-15 and 16-18 may dive from 5-, 7.5-, or 10-meters and must use at least five different five groups in the competition.

Girls ages 16-18 must perform one additional optional dive. Girls ages 14-15 and 16-18 may dive from 5-, 7.5-, or 10-meters and must use at least five different five groups in the competition.

Junior Boys

Springboard 
Boys ages 11 and under must perform three voluntary dives from different groups with a total degree of difficulty not to exceed 5.0 on 1-meter-springboard and 5.4 on 3-meter springboard, followed by three optional dives from different groups.

Boys ages 12-13 must perform four voluntary dives from different groups with a total degree of difficulty not to exceed 7.2 on 1-meter and 7.6 on 3-meter, followed by three optional dives from different groups.

Boys ages 14-15 must perform five voluntary dives—one from each group—with a total degree of difficulty not to exceed 9.0 on 1-meter and 9.5 on 3-meter, followed by four optional dives from different groups.

Boys ages 16-18 must perform five voluntary dives—one from each group—with a total degree of difficulty not to exceed 9.0 on 1-meter and 9.5 on 3-meter, followed by five optional dives from five groups without limit.

Platform
Boys ages 11 and under must perform three voluntary dives with a degree of difficulty not to exceed 5.4, as well as two optional dives from different groups. Dives may be done on 5-meter only.

Boys ages 12-13 must perform four voluntary dives with a degree of difficulty not to exceed 7.6, as well as three optional dives from different groups. Dives may be done on 5- and 7.5-meter only.

Boys ages 14-15 must perform four voluntary dives from different groups with a total degree of difficulty not to exceed 7.6, followed by four optional dives from different groups. Boys ages 14-15 and 16-18 may dive from 5-, 7.5-, or 10-meters and must use at least five different five groups in the competition.
