USA’s Murphy moves on in mixed doubles at Winter Youth Olympic Games
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Team USA’s Katie Murphy (Fairview Park, Ohio) has advanced to the second round of mixed doubles competition at the Winter Youth Olympic Games Lausanne 2020.
Paired with Canada’s Jaedon Neuert the duo defeated the Great Britain/Turkey tandem of Hannah Farries and Kadir Polat, 8-4, in the Round of 48 today at the Champery Curling Arena in Champery, Switzerland.
USA skip Ethan Hebert (Lowell, Mass.) and Swiss partner Malin Da Ros didn’t fare as well earlier today in a 10-4 loss to the Latvia/New Zealand duo of Anna Lasmane and William Becker.
On Sunday at 10 a.m., USA’s Alina Tschumakow (West Roxbury, Mass.) and partner Francesco De Zanna of Italy will battle the Korea/Polish duo of Youbeen Park and Robert Kaminski. Charlie Thompson (Eau Claire, Wis.) will then take the ice in the night session at 6 p.m. with German partner Kim Sutor. They will compete against the France/Norway tandem of Maelle Vergnaud and Grunde Buraas.
Murphy and Neuert return to the ice at 10 a.m. Monday against the Liza Gregori (Slovenia) and Maximilian Winz (Switzerland). Visit www.worldcurling.org for scores and updates.

About the event:
Curling at the Youth Olympic Games 2020 is made up of two events. There is a mixed team competition for 24 National Olympic Committees. Each team must consist of two female and two male athletes, all of whom have been born between Jan. 1, 2002 and Dec. 31, 2005. After the team event, athletes are put into 48 mixed doubles pairs with different nations competing together.
