USA falls to 1-3 at Youth Olympic Games
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – The Czech Republic controlled the match against Team USA today to come away with a 6-4 victory at the Winter Youth Olympic Games Lausanne 2020.
Ethan Hebert (Lowell, Mass.) and U.S. teammates Kaitlin Murphy (Fairview Park, Ohio), Charlie Thompson (Eau Claire, Wis.), and Alina Tschumakow (West Roxbury, Mass.) are now 1-3 in the Group D standings and eliminated from playoff contention at the Champery Curling Arena in Champery, Switzerland.
The round robin concludes on Tuesday with the U.S. taking on Sweden (2-2). Italy (4-0) and Japan (3-1) have secured playoff spots out of Group D. Canada (4-0) has earned a spot from Group A while Switzerland (4-0) is qualified from Group B. The remaining playoff berths will be determined tomorrow with the playoffs beginning Wednesday.
The competition is not over for the U.S. team just yet as they will all take part in the mixed doubles portion beginning on Saturday. All of the competing athletes will be paired with a player from another country with medals on the line. Follow all of the curling action at http://worldcurling.org/events/yog2020.

About the event:
Curling at the Youth Olympic Games 2020 is made up of two events. There is a mixed team competition for 24 National Olympic Committees. Each team must consist of two female and two male athletes, all of whom have been born between Jan. 1, 2002 and Dec. 31, 2005. After the team event, athletes are put into 48 mixed doubles pairs with different nations competing together.
