U.S. mixed doubles teams find more success

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Three U.S. mixed doubles teams turned in strong performances in the past few weeks on the World Curling Tour (WCT).

The duo of Sarah Anderson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Korey Dropkin (Duluth, Minn.) finished second at the Qualico Mixed Doubles Classic in Banff, Alberta, on Sunday. Anderson and Dropkin won this event in 2019 to become the first U.S. duo to capture a WCT mixed doubles event title. Americans Alex Agre (Woodbury, Minn.) and Derrick McLean (Bothell, Wash.) also reached the playoffs as both U.S. duos won their round robin pools. Agre and McLean lost their opening round playoff match to finish with a 4-2 record. Anderson and Dropkin defeated several strong Canadian duos to reach the event final against Olympians John Morris and Rachel Homan. A steal in the final end handed the win to the Canadian twosome.

The U.S. duo of Madison Bear (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Andrew Stopera (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) also had a second-place finish at the Southern States Mixed Doubles on Dec. 29 in Charlotte, N.C. Bear and Stopera were storming through the event and took a perfect record into the final against Canada’s Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant. The U.S. duo only had a modest lead to start the game in an eventual 9-6 loss.
