2021 Wheelchair National Team and 2022 Paralympic Team Trials information

The 2021 National Wheelchair Curling Team Trials and the 2022 Paralympic Curling Team Trials process will get underway at the Paralympic Curling Pre Trials to be held April 16-17, 2020, at the Denver Curling Club in Golden, Colorado. This event starts the process for selecting both the 2021 U.S. Wheelchair Curling National Team as well as the 2022 U.S. Paralympic Curling Team. Application to this event is open to all eligible athletes in the United States who have not already been directly invited to the 2021 National Team Selection Trials. Applications are due no later than March 1, 2020.

The following selection process will be used:

The field will be selected as follows:

  • All members (8) of the 2020 National Team will automatically qualify into the U.S. National Team Selection Trials to be held in Golden, Colorado, on May 28-29, 2020. The actual number of returning team members will not be official until the expiration of the National Team application deadline on or about April 1, 2020.
  • Selection to the Paralympic Curling Pre Trials will be based upon the submission of the application; five witnessed and signed repetitions of the qualifying Drill Sets as well as a resume. This application package will be reviewed by a committee comprised of USA Curling staff, including a minimum of one prior USA Curling National Team member. Applications will be ranked, gender specific, on Skill Shot Results, demonstrated past performance and involvement as evidenced by the resume.
  • The application package will be due by March 1, 2020. A minimum of eight (8) and a maximum of twelve (12) athletes will be selected to participate in the Paralympic Curling Pre Trials. Notifications of selection into the Paralympic Curling Pre Trials will be made to all applicants no later than March 10, 2020.
  • At the Paralympic Curling Pre Trials the athletes will be ranked on demonstrated skill, game knowledge and team dynamics by a committee comprised of USA Curling staff including a minimum of one prior USA Curling National Team member.A gender specific, rank-ordered list based on these criteria will be created and used to seed the U.S. National Team Selection Trials.
  • The required number of athletes will be selected from the Paralympic Curling Pre Trials resulting in a field of 12 for the U.S. National Team Selection Trials to be held in Golden, Colorado, on May 28-29 2020. As Wheelchair Curling is a co-ed sport, gender will be considered in the process.
  • The athletes selected from the Paralympic Curling Pre Trials and the returning 2020 U.S. National Wheelchair Team members will then participate in the U.S. National Team Selection Trials. Athletes will be ranked on demonstrated skill, game knowledge and team dynamics.A gender specific, rank ordered list based on these criteria will be created and used to select the eight (8) finalists for the 2021 U.S. National Wheelchair Curling Team.
  • These eight (8) finalists will then form the pool for the selection of the 2021 U.S. National Wheelchair Curling Team. Actual team selection will be based upon individual performance and observations of the coaching staff at the ensuing High Performance Camps and competitions.
  • These same eight (8) finalists will also form the pool for the selection of the 2022 U.S. Paralympic Curling Team.Actual team selection will be based upon individual performance and observations of the coaching staff at the ensuing High Performance Camps and competitions throughout the 2020 and 2021 competition seasons.
  • The Paralympic Curling Pre Trials to be held April 16-17, 2020 in Golden, Colorado, will be the last open selection for U.S. wheelchair curling athletes to be considered for either the 2021 U.S. National Wheelchair Curling Team or the 2022 U.S. Paralympic Curling National Team.
