2019 World Mixed Championship starts Saturday in Scotland

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Hunter Clawson will lead Team USA as the 2019 World Mixed Championship starts Saturday in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Clawson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and teammates Katherine Gourianova (Potomac, Md.), Eli Clawson (Clarksville, Md.), and Sydney Mullaney (Concord, Mass.) won the 2019 Mixed National Championship back in March and are set to compete in the weeklong world championship at Curl Aberdeen. Clawson, 23, also represented the U.S. in 2017, finishing ninth in Champery, Switzerland. The team will be coached by Eric Clawson (Clarksville, Md.).

A total of 40 countries will compete in the world championship. It is the first world championship appearance for Gourianova, 18; Eli Clawson, 19; and Mullaney, 18.

Team USA will begin the round robin on Saturday afternoon against Spain and continue through Thursday afternoon with matches against Australia, Brazil, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, and Sweden. The quarterfinals will begin on Friday with the medal games taking place on Oct. 19.

This is the fifth staging of the World Mixed Championship with Canada coming into Scotland as the defending champions after they defeated Spain at last year’s event in Kelowna, British Columbia, to win the title for the first time. The highest U.S. finish to date is fifth place.
