Five teams still perfect as U18 Championships sweep along

2019 U18 National Championships continue in Chaska

 

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – The boys teams are nearing the end of the round robin after Friday’s results at the 2019 USA Curling U18 National Championships in Chaska, Minn.

 

Teams skipped by Danny Casper, Wes Wendling and Kevin Tuma remain undefeated with 4-0 records in pool play. In Group A, Casper (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) and his team of Marius Kleinas (Marstons Mills, Mass.), Brice Sinnett (Medfield, Mass.), and Benjamin Grady (Media, Pa.) got past Max Kassner’s rink, 9-4, to remain undefeated. Keeping pace, Wendling and teammates John Wilkerson (Kronenwetter, Wis.), Christopher Kirsch (Wausau, Wis.), and Jackson Armstrong (Appleton, Wis.) defeated Connal Murphy’s Dakota Territory rink, 8-2, as they reached the 4-0 mark. In Group B, Tuma’s team is alone in first place at 4-0 after picking up an 8-2 victory over Connor Kauffman’s team from Seattle.

 

The 12 girls teams are on the ice this morning as their round robin continues on. In Pool A, a four-way tie for first place has Katherina Gourianova, Samantha Jones, Anna Netteberg and Delaney Strouse jockeying for the top spot. In Group B, Susan Dudt and Sara Olson have their teams still perfect with 3-0 records. Live scores are available for every game of the championship. Follow along at www.usacurl.org.

Trophies and awards:

Trophies for the competition were donated by the family of the late Chris Moore, who served as president of USA Curling’s board of directors in 2008-09. Winners of the competition will represent the U.S. at the upcoming U18 Players Championship March 29-31 in Ontario. Funds from the Chris Moore Legacy Fund also help support Team USA at this international competition. At the conclusion of the event, the recipient of the Garland Legacie Spirit of Curling Award will be selected.
