Duluth ladies take top spot at Club Nationals

Teams jockeying for playoff spots at 2019 Club National Championships

 

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – With the round robin nearing its close, teams are ramping up play in order to reach the playoffs of the 2019 USA Curling Club National Championships in Lakeville, Minn.

 

Duluth’s Jamie Kraus rink improved to 5-1 to take control of the women’s division after earning an 8-7 victory over Ann Swisshelm’s Detroit Curling Club team. Madison I’s Sydney Schmus rink moved into a three-way tie for second place after earning a 13-2 win over Kansas City’s Sarah Wruck rink this afternoon. Earlier in the day, Midland’s Brenda Mason also improved to 4-2 when she led her team to a 9-4 win over Madison II’s Cynthia Rhyner. Jayne Burton helped her rink from Arizona’s Coyotes Curling Club reach the 4-2 mark as well when they defeated Chicago’s Sara Gaum, 11-9, in the morning session.

 

Madison’s Dan Schally rink took possession of first place in the men’s division by breaking Bob LeClair’s five-game win streak. Schally’s team defeated the Coyotes rink, 8-5, this afternoon at Dakota Curling. In the only other men’s game played today, Ivo Petrov led his Plainfield rink to an 8-6 triumph over Exmoor’s Jeff Wright.

 

The round robin continues through Friday morning. The top four teams in each division will advance to Friday night’s semifinals. A live webstream is available throughout the competition in addition to live scores and standings at www.usacurl.org.
