Anderson-Dropkin win mixed doubles event; Nationals field nearly set

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – The American duo of Sarah Anderson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Korey Dropkin (Duluth, Minn.) continued its strong season in mixed doubles by capturing the Qualico Mixed Doubles Classic yesterday in Banff, Alberta.

Anderson and Dropkin went 8-0 to capture the World Curling Tour event title in a competitive field that featured many 2018 Olympic mixed doubles teams. The U.S. team defeated Canada’s Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant, 9-4, in the final to win the title at the Banff Curling Club. The team has advanced to the playoffs and medaled in nearly every competition they have played in this season.

The Men’s and Women’s Challenge Rounds concluded on Sunday with the final two men’s teams to compete in the 2019 National Championships being determined. Rinks skipped by Steve Birklid (Seattle) and Jed Brundidge (West St. Paul, Minn.) secured the last spots at the Four Seasons Curling Club. Earlier in the day the Women’s Challenge Round concluded at the Itasca Curling Club in Grand Rapids, Minn., with three teams securing Nationals spots. To view the nearly complete field (two more teams will be added after the conclusion of the 2019 Junior Nationals on Jan. 19), go to https://go.teamusa.org/2oNluTk.

The Nina Roth rink heads to Meridian Canadian Open this week in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. This is the fifth Grand Slam of Curling event that Team Roth is competing in this season. They made the semifinals back in November in Thunder Bay.
