USA women ready for playoffs at World Junior B
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Cora Farrell and the U.S. women closed out the round robin of the 2020 World Junior B Championships with a decisive 11-2 victory over Spain today in Lohja, Finland.
Farrell (Fairbanks, Alaska) and her team of Leah Yavarow (Bemidji, Minn.), Cait Flannery (Mankato, Minn.), Rebecca Miles (Duluth, Minn.), and Allison Howell (Solon, Ohio) scored five points in the sixth end to wrap up today’s match against Maria Gomez’s squad at the Kisakallio Sports Institute.
The win improves the U.S. women to 4-1 in Group A. They will now await their playoff matchup for Tuesday’s qualification round as the round robin finishes up later today in Finland. The top two teams in each of the three groups as well as the best two teams from those ranked third in each group will advance to tomorrow’s qualification playoffs at 6 p.m. (local time). The winners of the opening round of the playoffs will advance to the semifinals on Wednesday. The top three teams at the end of the competition will earn the final women’s berths to the 2020 World Junior Championships in February in Siberia.
