Late lead slips away to Italy

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – The U.S. ladies let a late lead slip away as Italy stole two points to earn a 7-6 victory over the Americans today at the 2020 World Junior B Championships in Lohja, Finland.

Cora Farrell (Fairbanks, Alaska) and her team of Leah Yavarow (Bemidji, Minn.), Cait Flannery (Mankato, Minn.), Allison Howell (Solon, Ohio), and Rebecca Miles (Duluth, Minn.) had the match against Stefania Constantini’s Italian team right where they wanted it – up one with the hammer – but a missed shot would leave Italy undefeated.

The U.S. ladies are now 1-1 in the Group A round robin at Kisakallio Sports Institute with a single game on tap Saturday afternoon against Austria (1-1). Denmark (2-0) and Latvia (2-0) lead Group B while Hungary (2-0) is on top of Group C. At the end of the round robin, the top two teams in each of the three groups plus the best two third-ranked teams will advance to the playoffs.
