Athletes selected for next month’s Wheelchair Curling Selection Trials

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Twelve athletes have been selected to participate in the 2020 Wheelchair Curling National Invitational Camp and Selection Trials coming up in Colorado.

The Selection Trials and Camp will take place May 30-June 2 at the Denver Curling Club in Golden, Colo. This is the first step in the 2020 Wheelchair Curling National Team Selection process. From this pool a minimum of four individuals will be selected to attend the 2020 National Team Selection Trials scheduled to take place July 6-7 at the Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine, Minn. The athletes will then be competing against the eight returning 2019 National Team members for a spot on the 2020 National Wheelchair Curling Team.

“Seeing the quality and quantity of applicants applying for consideration in the National Team Selection process attests to the local grassroots development and support of the game of wheelchair curling,” said Rusty Schieber, national wheelchair curling coach. “Half of the field will be competing in their first team selection event. While many are new to the process, the average score of those applying increased by nearly 15 percent over last year’s pool. We are very pleased with the state of wheelchair curling across the U.S. Many thanks go out to all the local coaches who are developing these programs and athletes.”

The 12 selected athletes include David Box (Charlotte, N.C.), Matt Broughton (Sherrills Ford, N.C.), Brad Carlson (Jefferson, Mass.), Bobby Faircloth (Matthews, N.C.), Lizzie Ford (New York Mills, N.Y.), Thomas Hall (Orange Park, Fla.), James Joseph (New Hartford, N.Y.), Caroline Knox (East Falmouth, Mass.), Terri Meadows (Concord, N.C.), Jeff Snover (Lake City, Mich.), Jesi Stracham (Iron Station, N.C.), and Theresa Verline (Middle Island, N.Y.).
