More playoff appearances highlight U.S. teams on World Curling Tour

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Coupled with the U.S. success at the Curling World Cup, Chase Sinnett’s team captured the Ontario Curling Tour’s Stu Sells Junior Tankard title on Sunday in Toronto to highlight Team USA’s performances last week.

Sinnett (Medfield, Mass.) and teammates Trevor Marquardt (Poynette, Wis.), Jonathon Harstad (Duluth, Minn.), and Eli Clawson (Clarksville, Md.) went a perfect 7-0 to win the Junior Tankard and start their season off strong. USA’s other junior men’s High Performance Program (HPP) team skipped by Andrew Stopera (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) also advanced to the semifinals in Toronto for a positive U.S. showing.

At the Shorty Jenkins Classic in Cornwall, Ontario, John Shuster and Jamie Sinclair both led their teams to the quarterfinals before bowing out. Cory Christensen’s team just missed a spot in the playoffs, which had to be determined via shoot-out scores.

As reported on Saturday, USA finished second in mixed doubles at the Curling World Cup as Sarah Anderson and Korey Dropkin lost to Canada, 7-3, in the final. USA’s Nina Roth rink went 3-3 while Rich Ruohonen’s team was 2-4 overall.

Stopera’s team continues its run through Ontario as they are set to compete in the KW Fall Classic this weekend in Kitchener-Waterloo. USA’s two junior women’s HPP teams will compete in their first events of the season as the Annmarie Dubberstein and Cait Flannery rinks head to U21 Sapphire Slam in Guelph, Ontario. Mark Fenner’s men’s team hits the ice for its first event of the season as well as they are set to compete in the Mother Club Fall Classic in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
