USA picks up second win at 2018 World Mixed Championship

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Team USA got back in the win column Tuesday night at the 2018 Winn Rentals World Mixed Curling Championship in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.

Evan Workin (Fargo, N.D.) and the American team stole points in key ends to fuel a 6-2 victory over Ireland’s James Russell rink at the Kelowna Curling Club.

“You know, we were sharp and made a couple of shots when we had to – they did, too. We had pretty good placement throughout the game. I think we just finished the game off better. We’re getting sharper and sharper as the games go on,” Workin said. “It might be a little late now, but we’re gonna finish strong here.”

Workin and teammates Rachel Workin (Fargo, N.D.), Jordan Brown (Elk River, Minn.), and Christina Lammers (Fargo, N.D.) are now 2-4 in the round robin standings with two games left on the schedule. They have just one game on tap today at 4 p.m. PT against Brazil (0-5).

“We’ve had a lot of games that were really close and, you know, we kind of got sloppy at the end of them. We let it get away from us,” Evan Workin said. “We wanted to finish this one through all the way, be smart and stick to the plan that we had – and we did.”

Russia continues to lead the Group B standings with a perfect 6-0 record with the playoffs in the near distance. Scotland has clinched the first playoff spot out of Group A while the Czech Republic (5-0) leads Group C and Norway (4-0) and Slovakia (4-0) are on top of Group D. To view full standings, go to
