Shuster team named Male Team of PyeongChang 2018 at ANOC Awards

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – John Shuster and the 2018 Olympic curling champions were named Male Team of PyeongChang 2018 today at the Association of National Olympic Committee (ANOC) Awards in Tokyo.

Shuster (Superior, Wis.) and teammates Tyler George (Duluth, Minn.), Matt Hamilton (McFarland, Wis.), John Landsteiner (Duluth, Minn.), and Joe Polo (Duluth, Minn.) won the first Olympic gold in the sport of curling for the U.S. in February with its historic win over Sweden. The team was coached by Phill Drobnick and Derek Brown.

“Wow – the men’s team of the Olympic Games! It feels special,” Shuster said. “What makes a team great is the commitment to each other and to a dream. You can achieve dreams. Throughout the last four years, we committed to each other to try to achieve this [Olympic gold]. Thanks to our wives and families, our coaches and support staff. A huge thank you to all the governing bodies around the world that allow us to compete on the world’s grandest stage in a fair venue.”

Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg rink, which won the women’s Olympic curling gold, were named Female Team of PyeongChang as the sport of curling swept the team awards at the fifth annual event. Award winners were selected by the ANOC Jury, which includes representatives from each of the Continental Associations, the ANOC Athletes’ Commission Chair, AIOWF President and ANOC Secretary General.
