USA now 2-0 at Americas Challenge in Chaska
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – The U.S. continued its dominance at the Americas Challenge today as Rich Ruohonen led the Americans to a 13-2 victory over Guyana at the Chaska Curling Center.
Ruohonen (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and teammates Greg Persinger (Fairbanks, Alaska), Colin Hufman (Minneapolis, Minn.), Phil Tilker (Seattle), and Korey Dropkin (Duluth, Minn.) opened this morning’s game with three points and stole five in the second end to put the game fully in control. Guyana’s Rayad Husain rink finally got on the board in the sixth end with a deuce as they conceded the 13-2 loss in Chaska, Minn., thereafter.
In the afternoon draw, Guyana bounced back with an extra-end victory over Brazil’s Marcelo Mello rink by a 10-9 score. Brazil had a 5-1 lead early on but the lead disintegrated in the second half as Guyana forced Brazil to a single point in the 10th end to set up the overtime win. The U.S. team returns to the ice tonight at 7 to take on Brazil (0-2).
