Two more draws in the books at Arena Nationals in SLC

2018 Arena National Championships continue in Salt Lake City

 

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Four draws of the 2018 USA Curling Arena National Championships from the Utah Olympic Oval are officially in the books.

 

In this morning’s competition, four women’s games took place with San Francisco Bay Area’s Monica Hernandez securing a 10-3 win over Lone Star after jumping out to a quick lead. Broadmoor’s Paula Bloom led her Colorado-based team to a 9-5 win over Donna Umali Mendoza’s team from the Hollywood club as they score seven points over the final three ends. Sarah Wruck’s Kansas City foursome scored four points in the seventh end to defeat Diane Palme’s Silicon Valley rink, 8-3. Liza Beres led her Hollywood women’s team to an extra-end victory over Windy City’s Brooke Borowiak.

 

T. Keefe Davis led his St. Louis rink to a second win as they defeated the hometown team – Utah Olympic Oval – by a 9-5 score in the lone men’s game this morning. In this afternoon’s action, Chris Hofland’s La Crosse rink upset the defending champions from the Curling Club of Houston with an 8-4 victory to improve to 1-1. San Francisco Bay Area’s Richard Lazarowich skipped his team to a 7-4 win over Long Island to reach a 2-0 record to lead Pool B. Wine Country’s David Markowski rink improved to 2-0 as well with a 7-6 win over past champion Mark Robinson’s team from Pittsburgh to lead Pool C. In a few lopsided games, Kansas City shut out Aberdeen, 9-0, and Dallas-Fort Worth swept past Bend, 14-1.

 

Two more draws at 4 and 8 p.m. MT will round out today’s competition at the Oval. All the action on Sheet 3 is being streamed live webstream and live scores/standings are linked at www.usacurl.org. The competition continues today with four draws of competition.
