Michigan continues to lead 2018 Mixed National Championship

 

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Michigan’s Sean Murray rink continued its winning ways this morning to remain in first place at the 2018 USA Curling Mixed National Championship at the Dakota Curling Club in Lakeville, Minn.

 

Murray and his team of Emilia Juocys (Rochester Hills, Mich.), Dan Wiza (Waunakee, Wis.), and Stephanie Senneker (Perry, Mich.) improved to 6-1 with a 9-1 win today over Fred Maxie’s 2016 champions from the Granite Curling Club in Seattle.

 

With three draws left in the round robin, Evan Workin’s North Dakota team is in solid shape to make the final four after securing an 11-5 victory today over Wisconsin’s Ryan Spielman rink. Workin (Fargo, N.D.) and his Fargo-Moorhead Curling Club teammates Rachel Workin (Fargo, N.D.), Jordan Brown (Elk River, Minn.), and Christina Lammers (Reiles Acres, N.D.) are now 5-1 overall.

 

New York’s Caitlin Maroldo rink won its third match in a row to improve to 5-2. Maroldo (Rochester, N.Y.) and her Rochester Curling Club teammates Jeff Pulli (Rochester, N.Y.), Rebecca Andrew (West Henrietta, N.Y.), and Jason Scott (Rochester, N.Y.) got past Emily Anderson’s Pennsylvania rink, 6-3, to keep their playoff hopes alive. Anderson and Maxie are currently tied for fourth place with 3-3 records. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs on Friday night.

 

The round robin continues today with one more draw at 2 p.m. followed by a banquet tonight. The round robin picks back up on Thursday at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Live scores and a link to the live webstream are posted at www.usacurl.org. The winning team will represent the U.S. at the 2018 World Mixed Championship Oct. 13-20 in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.
