Michigan leads Mixed National Championship after two days of action

Michigan leads 2018 Mixed National Championship

 

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Michigan’s Sean Murray rink leads the 2018 USA Curling Mixed National Championship with a perfect 3-0 record so far at the Dakota Curling Club in Lakeville, Minn.

 

Murray and his team of Emilia Juocys (Rochester Hills, Mich.), Dan Wiza (Waunakee, Wis.), and Stephanie Senneker (Perry, Mich.) held off Michael Sherry’s Chicago Curling Club in last night’s round robin action to run their record to three straight wins.

 

New York’s Caitlin Maroldo rink is a game back but undefeated as well at 2-0. Maroldo (Rochester, N.Y.) and her team of Jeff Pulli (Rochester, N.Y.), Rebecca Andrew (West Henrietta, N.Y.), and Jason Scott (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded back-to-back wins on Sunday after defeating Evan Workin’s North Dakota rink, 7-3, and Minnesota’s Kevin Johnson, 7-4.

 

Wisconsin’s Ryan Spielman rink lost its opening match but has bounced back with two wins to hold down third place in the 10-team division. Spielman (South Beloit, Ill.) and teammates Craig Heinze (Hartland, Wis.), Michele Heinze (Hartland, Wis.), and Laureen Spielman (South Beloit, Ill.) scored two points in the final end last night to defeat Emily Anderson’s team from the Philadelphia Curling Club.

 

The round robin continues with draws today at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. CT. Live scores and a live webstream are posted at www.usacurl.org. The winning team will represent the U.S. at the upcoming World Mixed Championship.
