Seattle’s Granite Curling Club to host 2019 Mixed Doubles National Championship

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – A club rich in competitive curling history is set to host the 2019 USA Curling Mixed Doubles National Championship in February as Seattle’s Granite Curling Club comes on board.

The mixed doubles discipline has grown in popularity worldwide since becoming an Olympic sport. The Granite Curling Club last hosted the 2017 National Championships at nearby XFINITY Arena. The five-sheet club also recently hosted the 2014 Junior Nationals. The 2019 Mixed Doubles Championship will take place Feb. 27-March 3.

“The Granite Curling Club is pleased to support national competitions by once again bringing the Mixed Doubles Championship to Seattle,” said Doug Potter, Granite Curling Club. “Mixed Doubles has grown both nationally and locally and this is our chance to further expose our newest members and the community to the newest Olympic curling event – and to showcase our club to curlers across the nation.”

A qualifying event will take place in December to narrow the field for the national event in Seattle. The host site for the qualifying event is still being determined but the competition dates are set as Dec. 19-23.

The winning team from the national event, which has been contested each year since 2008, will go on to represent the U.S. at the 2019 World Mixed Doubles Championship in Norway next April. In 2016, the U.S. won its first world mixed doubles medal when Joe Polo and Tabitha Peterson captured the bronze medal.

USA Curling is sponsored by AtomOS, Nike, Brooms Up Curling Supplies, CryoMAX 8-Hour Cold Pack, Sitrin, The RAM Restaurant & Brewery, Twin Cities Orthopedics, Thorne, BalancePlus, ISS (Ice, Sports & Solar), and Brakebush, and is partnered with Laurie Artiss Ltd. – The Pin People, United Airlines, 12th End Sports Network, IHG, and CurlingZone.
