Semifinals today at 2018 Mixed Doubles Championship in Eau Claire
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – It is down to four teams remaining at the 2018 USA Curling Mixed Doubles National Championship in Eau Claire, Wis.
After four competitive days, the semifinals are set this morning at the Eau Claire Curling Club. In last night’s quarterfinal action, 2015 champions Sarah Anderson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Korey Dropkin (Duluth, Minn.) defeated Lexi Lanigan and Quinn Evenson (both of Duluth, Minn.), 6-3, to keep their hopes of a second title alive.
Two-time Olympian Jessica Schultz (Richfield, Minn.) and Derrick McLean (Bothell, Wash.) defeated Denver Curling Club’s team of Clare Moores (Denver) and Lance Wheeler (Wheat Ridge, Colo.), 6-3. They will now take on Anderson and Dropkin.
Maureen Stolt and Pete Stolt (both of Plymouth, Minn.), the 2013 champions, made quick work of Utica Curling Club teammates Audrey Foote (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Blake Hagberg (New Hartford, N.Y.) by an 8-2 score to reach this morning’s semis.
It took an extra end for Christine McMakin (St. Paul, Minn.) and Riley Fenson (Bemidji, Minn.) to get past Taylor Anderson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Hunter Clawson (Clarksville, Md.), 6-5. They will now battle the Stolts to try to reach the final.
The gold-medal game will begin at 2 p.m. The winning team will represent the U.S. at the 2018 World Mixed Doubles Championship April 21-28 in Ostersund, Sweden. Live scores, standings and athlete information will be posted at www.usacurl.org.
