Athletes invited to wheelchair invitational camps and tryouts

Athletes selected to participate in the Wheelchair Curling National Invitational Camp and Selection Trials


(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – A field of 12 individuals have been selected to compete at an invitational camp in hopes of making the 2019 U.S. National Wheelchair Curling Team.


Due to the tremendous popularity of the sport of curling and the resulting growth of wheelchair curling, USA Curling announced a revised process this winter for the upcoming 2019 U.S. National Wheelchair Team Selection Trials.


The selection camp will be held May 31-June 3 at the Denver Curling Club in Golden, Colo.  From that event a minimum of four athletes will advance to the 2019 U.S. National Wheelchair Team Selection Trials, which also includes the returning members of the current National Team, being held at the Wausau Curling Club on Nov. 2-4 in Wausau, Wis.


The following 12 applicants have received invitations to the selection camp: Matt Broughton (Sherrills Ford, N.C.), George Eldridge (Shelton, Conn.), Caroline Knox (East Falmouth, Mass.), Patrick McDonald (Madison, Wis.), Doug Meilke (Mosinee, Wis.), Kevin Owen (Liberty, S.C.), Shawn Sadowski (Westfield, Wis.), David Samsa (Green Bay, Wis.), Jesi Stracham (Iron Station, N.C.), Batoyuna Uranchimeg (Burnsville, Minn.), Terry Vereline (South Setauket, N.Y.), and Ken White (Sutton, Mass.).


The eight current national team members include the 2018 Paralympic team – Kirk Black (San Antonio, Texas), Steve Emt (Hebron, Conn.), Justin Marshall (Evansville, Wis.), Penny Greely (Green Bay, Wis.) and Meghan Lino (East Falmouth, Mass.) – as well as James Joseph (New Hartford, N.Y.), Matthew Thums (Wausau, Wis.) and Pam Wilson (Westminster, Colo.).
