American duo reaches playoffs of mixed doubles event in Canada

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – As mixed doubles continues to grab interest worldwide in the leadup to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, USA’s athletes are prepping for the international stage as well. The American duo of Olympian John Shuster (Superior, Wis.) and Cory Christensen (Duluth, Minn.) reached the quarterfinals of last weekend’s Service Experts Mixed Doubles Classic in Edmonton, Canada, as they work to qualify for the 2018 U.S. Olympic Mixed Doubles Trials.

Shuster and Christensen went 3-1 in the preliminary round robin in Edmonton to reach the playoffs where they lost a tight battle to Korea’s Hyeiji Jang and Ki Jeong Lee, 8-7.

The focus this week turns back to traditional men’s and women’s competitions. USA High Performance Program teams will take to the ice in Switzerland, Sweden and Canada.

Heath McCormick’s rink will battle at the Swiss Cup in Basel, Switzerland, as they look to make another playoff appearance at a World Curling Tour (WCT) event. Christensen will lead her women’s rink at the Stockholm Ladies Cup in Stockholm, Sweden. In the Canadian events, Nina Roth (McFarland, Wis.) and Jamie Sinclair (St. Paul, Minn.) will take on the field at the Prestige Hotels & Resorts Curling Classic in Vernon, British Columbia, while Shuster will travel with his men’s team to the College Clean Restoration Curling Classic in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Results for U.S. HPP teams will be posted each week at
