USA improves to 3-1 at 2017 World Mixed Championship

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Hunter Clawson and Team USA improved to 3-1 in the round robin with a convincing win over Belarus today at the 2017 World Mixed Curling Championship in Champery, Switzerland.

Clawson (Clarksville, Md.) and teammates Emily Anderson (Broomall, Pa.), Caleb Clawson (Clarksville, Md.), and Lexi Lanigan (Duluth, Minn.) got past Pavel Patrov’s team from Belarus, 9-3, as they earned their third win at the Palladium de Champéry.

“We have a lot of experience curling on national ice and in international competitions so we were able to adapt to the conditions after our game yesterday … so we came out strong,” Hunter Clawson, 22, said.

The U.S. team got off to a productive start against Belarus, scoring in the first two ends to take a quick 3-0 lead. After holding their opponent to a single point in the third end, the Americans struck for three points in the fourth to extend the lead. Another three points later in the game put the match out of reach as the U.S. cruised to its third victory.

“Now we need to take each of these last games one at a time. We’re just trying to make sure we know which rocks we like for hopefully a deep playoff run,” Hunter Clawson said.

The U.S. team is idle on Tuesday but returns action Wednesday to take on Sweden (3-0). The Americans will close out the round robin portion on Thursday against Latvia (2-1).
