Christensen and Polo named to 2018 US Olympic Curling Team

Fifth players for U.S. curling teams at Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 announced


(OMAHA, Neb.) – Joe Polo and Cory Christensen (both of Duluth, Minn.) have been named to the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team as the alternates for the John Shuster and Nina Roth rinks.


Polo, 34, has been the fifth player for Shuster’s team since 2016 and was a teammate of Shuster’s at the 2006 Games when the U.S. men won bronze. Christensen, 22, skipped her own team at the recent 2018 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling in Omaha, Neb., and served as Team Roth’s fifth at the 2017 World Women’s Championship in China in March. Christensen is a four-time U.S. junior national champion and won a silver medal at the 2016 World Junior Championships. Polo, in addition to his 2006 Olympic performance, is a six-time men’s national champion.


Polo and Christensen also are qualified to compete in next month’s 2018 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Mixed Doubles Curling in Blaine, Minn.


All nominations to the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team are subject to approval by the United States Olympic Committee.
