USA wins Kisakallio Cup in Finland

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Team USA reached the top of the podium yesterday at the Kisakallio Cup in Lohja, Finland.

Led by Steve Emt (Andover, Conn.), the American national wheelchair curling team went 5-1 in capturing the Cup title.

Emt and his team of Kirk Black (San Antonio, Texas), Jimmy Joseph (New Hartford, N.Y.), Penny Greely (Green Bay, Wis.), and Justin Marshall (Evansville, Wis.) got past Estonia, 8-3, in the semifinals to set up the gold-medal game against host Finland. The U.S. team scored three points in the final end of the game to defeat Finland.

Up next for Team USA is the 2017 World Wheelchair Curling Championship March 4-11 in Gangneung, South Korea. The U.S. is already qualified for the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, which will be contested at the same arena as this year’s world championship.
