World champion Hackner rejoins USA Curling’s coaching staff

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Two-time world champion Al Hackner (Thunder Bay, Ontario) will return to USA Curling’s High Performance Program (HPP) coaching staff for the upcoming season.

Hackner joins Phill Drobnick (Eveleth, Minn.), Scott Baird (Bemidji, Minn.), Jake Higgs (Ontario), and Dave Jensen (Bismarck, N.D.) to round out the national coaching staff under the direction of Derek Brown, Director of High Performance.

Hackner, who won two world men’s championship titles during a successful on-ice career, was previously part of the coaching staff for two seasons (2012-2014).

“I am delighted to have Al back as part of the coaching team. He has a fantastic knowledge of the game and his expertise will help take our teams to the highest level,” Brown said.

Hackner will begin his coaching role on Sept. 1 and will work mainly with the Nina Roth rink but will also support other U.S. Program teams as needed at competitions.
