Four qualifying events will be used this season to determine the field for the 2018 USA Curling Junior National Championships this winter. Here is a preview of the relevant information for each event:

Junior Nationals Berth Qualifiers:

Junior National Qualifier System

This year’s Junior National Championship will be held January 27 through February 3, 2018, at the Detroit Curling Club located in Ferndale, Michigan.  As has been discussed over the last several months across the curling community, to expand upon the level of competitiveness the USCA has instituted a series of Junior National Berth Qualifier Bonspiels.  These qualifiers were placed in areas where high concentrations of junior curlers reside in an effort to mitigate travel costs and to allow for the greatest number of teams to compete at multiple events.

Here is how the system works:

Step 1

Step 2

  • Register your team with the host site of your choice. Team entry fees will be collected by the club to cover the cost to run the event.

  • The qualifiers are set approximately a month apart to allow teams to play in multiple qualifiers, until they secure a Junior National berth.
  • Teams do not have to consist of the same players for every qualifier. If after playing in one, you wish to enter a different team in the next, that’s allowable.
  • Once your team has secured a berth, the line-up is set and you are ineligible to play in subsequent qualifiers. At this point you will only be allowed to add an alternate palyer.
  • Entry deadlines for each qualifier are set. Please see the USCA registration schedule
  • All teams are required to have a coach who has met the minimum requirements, along with Adult Supervisors for any minors who will not be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, registered ten business days in advance of the qualifier deadline.
  • All participants must have completed and met all registration requirements (proof of citizenship on file with the USCA, USCA Club Member and paid registration fee) for the Junior National Championships ten business days prior to the start of a Qualification Bonspiel, unless otherwise noted within the USCA Championship Registration Schedule.
  • Games will be eight ends with one time-out per game.
  • Each qualifier has the potential for two junior national spots per gender.  If there are six or more teams of the same gender, two spots will be available. If there are between three and five teams, one spot will be available, and qualifiers that register less than three teams will be canceled.
  • All un-used spots will go to the last qualifier.
