July 2017 USCA Board Meeting Key Items of Agreement
October 2014- In her workshop titled Director Education and Leadership Workshop, Kae Rader suggested that we take a few minutes at the end of each meeting to discuss the significant positive results of the meeting and create a short list of talking points that we can take to our members as part of a consistent message from the Board.
Men’s Canada Tour Development – We have an agreement in place with Curl Canada for a US-Canada men’s tour similar to the existing Men’s Scots Tour. A full announcement will be put out through the Communications Office once all the details are worked out. Looking for possible involvement of “5 and under” curlers as part of the tour. The tour will take place in November 2019.
2017-18 Budget Approved – The Board approved a budget for the 2017-18 fiscal year. The budget was thoroughly considered for its content considering this is an Olympic year. The primary challenges were how to meet crucial Olympic year competitive program initiatives, and USCA priorities for more junior program investment. The strategic direction given by the advisory group and agreed to by the Board, was to consider a budget proposal with a deficit of $99,591, drawing upon USCA reserve funds that exceed the amount considered to be necessary for 6-month operating expenses. The budget passed on a unanimous vote.
By-Laws Amendment – The Board voted to amend Section 6.1.b, which deals with the allocation of berths in applicable curling competitions based on States/Regions. The amendment removed a sentence that limited changes to these allocations to once every four years.
Continuing Communication with States/Regions – The Chair and the CEO have attended or called in to many State/Regional meetings this past spring and continue to look forward to any other invitations to discuss USCA activities with membership groups.
Members Assembly – Will take place September 28 to October 1, in St. Paul, MN. Details will follow later in the summer.
Town Hall Call – Planned for Tuesday, August 8, at 7 p.m. Central.
