Dear 2015 USA Curling Nationals Participants,

The official announcement of USA's return to the Continental Cup in 2016 was made on January 9, 2015.  USCA staff had previously been in discussion with the USCA Chair regarding selection of the Athletes to represent the USCA in this prestigious event. The staff presented, at the Chair's request, a selection process proposal to the USCA Board of Directors at its February 3 meeting. The Board reaffirmed the authority of the staff to make the determination as to the criteria and process for selecting the U.S. Athletes for Team North America.

The selection process includes the establishment of an ad hoc committee to determine how the athletes will be selected.

The committee is as follows:
* Derek Brown, Director of High Performance
* Doug Pottinger, USCA AAC representative to the USOC
* Ann Swisshelm, National Women's Team Coach
* Phill Drobnick, National Men's Team Coach
* Rick Patzke, interim CEO

This committee has begun meeting and intends to determine the Athlete selection process by June, if not before. In establishing how the Athletes will be selected, this committee will take into consideration a variety of criteria, including (but not limited to) the following:

> Unique performance opportunity of the 2016 WFG Continental Cup of Curling.
> Competitive responsibility of representing USA and North America.
> Athletic capacity and aptitude as it applies to this unique competitive environment.
> Athlete training, competitive scheduling, and promotional opportunities.
> Value of Athlete exposure to the following, and how this relates to the vision of the USCA in terms of growing the sport through competitive excellence:

  • High-level competition
  • Playing in front of large crowds
  • Competing in a distracting environment
  • Performing as part of a larger team
