BISMARCK, N.D. - Brazil will be challenging the U.S. men's curling team in Bismarck.

The teams will be vying for a spot in the 2009 World Curling Championships.

It's one of two major curling events planned at Bismarck's VFW Sports Center next week.

The other event will be the U.S. Curling Association challenge. It will determine the four men's teams that will compete in the national championships, which will serve as the Olympic Trials.

The national qualifier is scheduled Wednesday through Sunday, and the Brazil-U.S. challenge will be Friday through Sunday.

Bismarck Capital Curling Club spokesman Jon Mielke says the U.S. Curling Association chose Bismarck for the events because it has a good reputation. He says it's "a big deal" and it's exciting.
