The official draw for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 took place this evening at the Kokugikan Arena, home of the boxing competition during these Summer Olympics, and the 10 boxers representing Team USA found out their first competitor.
Three boxers will compete in the first day of competition, Delante Johnson (Cleveland, Ohio), Duke Ragan (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Yarisel Ramirez (Las Vegas, Nev.), which is set to begin Saturday, July 24. A complete first day schedule can be found below.
The second day of competition (July 25) will see Keyshawn Davis (Norfolk, Va.) and Virginia Fuchs (Houston, Texas) make their Olympic debuts against the Netherland’s Enrico Lacruz and Russia’s Svetlana Soluianova, while Troy Isley (Alexandria, Va.) will step into the ring with Vitali Bandarenka of Belarus.
Oshae Jones (Toledo, Ohio), the third seed in the women’s welterweight division, earned a first-round bye and will begin competition on Tuesday, July 27. Middleweight Naomi Graham (Fayetteville, N.C.), Team USA’s second female boxer that is seeded third in these Games, will box on July 28. Jones will face Brianda Tamara Cruz Sandoval of Mexico, while Graham will box Russia’s Zenfira Magomedalieva.
Super heavyweight Richard Torrez Jr. (Tulare, Calif.), USA Boxing’s lone male boxer to be seeded (third), will face Algeria’s Chouaib Bouloudinats on July 29, while Rashida Ellis (Lynn, Mass.) will be the last American to make their debut on July 30 after receiving a first-round bye.
