The first annual Alexis Vastine Tournament came to a close today in Nantes, France, where Team USA grabbed 2 gold and 4 silver to add to their four bronze medals earned earlier in the tournament.
Abraham Perez (Albuquerque, N.M.) started the day for Team USA against Amith of India, the 2019 Elite World Championships silver medalists. Perez put up a strong effort, however, fell short of taking the judges cards to take the silver, his second international medal this month.
Light heavyweight Rahim Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.) put up an impressive performance against England’s George Crotty, including giving Crotty an 8 count in the third round, however, fell short of the victory at the end of the bout. Bantamweight Andrea Medina (San Diego, Calif.) closed out the day for the Americans in dominating fashion to take the victory over Sweden’s Stephanie Thour. Medina adds another gold medal to her gold medal performance in Spain earlier this month, to medal in all three international tournaments she has competed in this year.
Middleweights Joseph Hicks (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Naomi Graham (Fayetteville, N.C.) earned silver medals following their walkover losses to the respective opponents.
Darius Fulghum (Houston, Texas), Anthony Herrera (Los Angeles, Calif.), Delante Johnson (Cleveland, Ohio) and Charlie Sheehy (Brisbane, Calif.) rounded out the Americans medal haul with their bronze medals.
