Team USA Grabs Three Bronze Medals on Third Day of 2020 Boxam Tournament

Five American’s stepped into the ring during today’s boxing action at the 2020 Boxam Tournament, picking up three bronze medals and advancing two to tomorrow’s women’s championship bouts.

2020 U.S. Olympic Qualification team member Andrea Medina (San Diego, Calif.) once again kicked off Team USA’s day with another successful win. Medina, who is competing just in her second international tournament, defeated France’s Amina Zidani by (split decision) to advance to her second international finals. The featherweight will face Jenifer Fernandez Romero of Spain in tomorrow’s finals.

Oshae Jones (Toledo, Ohio), the 2019 Pan American Games Champion, grabbed Team USA’s second win of the day. Jones took all five judges’ cards over Shannon Toure of France to advance to tomorrow’s championship bout against  France’s Emilie Sonvico. The welterweight will be looking for her second international gold medal this year, as she won the 2020 Strandja Tournament earlier this year.

Rashida Ellis (Lynn, Mass.), Darius Fulghum (Houston, Texas) and Rahim Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.) grabbed bronze medals for Team USA, marking the first international medals for Fulghum and Gonzales.

Tomorrow’s bouts will also feature Naomi Graham (Fayetteville, N.C.) going against Spain’s Patricia Martin Cabrera in the women’s middleweight championship bout, as well as Abraham Perez (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Charlie Sheehy (Brisbane, Calif.) boxing in their respective semifinal bouts.
