Johnson Advances to Next Round of Elite World Championships

2016 Youth World Champion and 2019 Pan American Games bronze medalists Delante Johnson (Cleveland, Ohio) met a familiar foe in his opening about of the 2019 Elite Men’s World Championships in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

Johnson, who is making his third overall World Championship appearance, defeated Luiz Fernando Da Silva of Brazil by a 3-2 split decision. The welterweight will return to action for the second round of preliminaries on Monday, where he will face the winner of Italian Gianluigi Malanga and Estonian Pavel Kamanin bout.

Team USA will be back in action tomorrow with Michael Angeletti (Springs, Texas) and Keyshawn Davis (Norfolk, Va.) making their World Championships debut, while Javier Martinez (Milwaukee, Wisc.) will look to pick up his second win in Russia.
