Seven Americans to Compete in Quarterfinals Tomorrow at 2019 World Championships

Team USA grabbed three wins this morning at the 2019 Elite Women’s World Championships in Ulan Ude, Russia to have a total of seven boxers stepping into the ring for tomorrow’s quarterfinal bouts.

Bantamweight Mikiah Kreps (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) was the first American to pick up a victory today with a huge 4-1 decision over the second seed Karina Tazabekova of Russia. Kreps will face the sixth seed Dina Zholaman of Kazakhstan tomorrow. 

Rashida Ellis (Lynn, Mass.) continued her impressive World Championships run with another dominating performance. Ellis took all five judges’ cards over Italian Francesa Amato. Ellis will look for her third victory in her first World Championships in tomorrow’s bout against the second seeded Sudaporn Seesondee of Thailand. 

2019 Pan American Games Champion Oshae Jones (Toledo, Ohio) closed out the impressive day for USA Boxing with her own unanimous decision victory against Dariga Shakimova of Kazakhstan, the eighth seed of the tournament. Jones returns right back to the ring tomorrow against Saadat Dalgatova, who upset the second seed Nadine Apetz of Germany today. 

Joining these three in tomorrow’s competition is Ravven Brown (San Antonio, Texas), 2018 World Championships bronze medalists Naomi Graham (Colorado Springs, Colo.), as well as Krystal Dixon (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and 2018 World Championships bronze medalists Danielle Perkins (Houston, Texas). Dixon and Perkins will be stepping into the ring for the first time at this year’s championships.
