Ellis Dominates in World Championships Debut

Oct. 06, 2019, 8:26 a.m. (ET)

Lightweight Rashida Ellis (Lynn, Mass.) put on a dominating performance over Panama’s Elisa Williams in her World Championships debut to advance to the next round of competition.

Williams could not handle the pressure of Ellis, the 2019 Pan American Games bronze medalist, from the beginning, resulting in the referee to stop the bout in the third round. Ellis advances to the next round of competition on Wednesday against Francesca Amato of Italy.

Breeanna Locquiao (Mililani, Hawaii) returns to the ring tomorrow for her second fight of these Championships against Ekaterina Paltceva of Russia, while Ravven Brown (San Antonio, Texas) will make her international debut when she steps in the ring to face Paola Calderon Munoz of Colombia. The session will begin at 6:00 a.m. EST. Click here to follow.

Team USA is currently 4-2 in Ulan Ude, Russia.

A total of 226 boxers from 57 countries are competing for gold at this year’s edition of the Elite Women’s World Championships. Follow the Americans time at the tournament by clicking here.
