Elite World Championships Underway in Russia

The 2019 Elite Women’s World Championships got underway today in Ulan Ude, Russia, with Team USA going 1-2 for the day.

Light flyweight Breeanna Locquiao (Mililani, Hawaii) started the day off by making her international debut for USA Boxing. The 2018 Elite National Champion took a 3-2 split decision victory over Endang Endang of Indonesia. Locquiao will return to the ring on Monday to face Russian Ekaterina Paltceva.

Two-time World Champion Heaven Garcia (El Monte, Calif.) made her Elite World Championships debut this morning but fell short in a heartbreaking 3-2 split against Anush Grigoryan of Armenia.

2019 Pan American Games bronze medalist Yarisel Ramirez (Las Vegas, Nev.) returned to the world championship stage since her silver medal performance at the 2015 Junior World Championships. Ramirez fell short in advancing to the next round of competition to England’s Karriss Artingtstall.

Team USA will have two boxers’ step into the ring tomorrow, Oshae Jones (Toledo, Ohio) and Mikiah Kreps (Niagara Falls, N.Y.). Click here to follow their performance.
